1920s Hand-Embroidered Japanese Silk Kimono
A beautiful early 20th-century Japanese kimono, believed to date from the 1920s, featuring exquisite hand-embroidered floral decoration crafted from black silk with a contrasting pink lining.
The front of the kimono has a wonderfully elegant, understated appearance, with delicate embroidered sprigs and individual blossoms scattered across the shoulders, sleeves and lower sections. Fine green stems and leaves are accented with small flowers in soft ivory, pink and red.
The back reveals the full drama of the piece, with a large, richly embroidered floral arrangement cascading across the upper back and continuing down towards the hem. Flowering blooms in red, coral, cream, blue and yellow are intertwined with foliage and trailing stems, creating an intricate and highly decorative composition.
